How I work
A behind-the-scenes look at my proven, step-by-step process for writing copy that works.
1. Getting to know you
To begin, I’ll send you some questions about your business, your target audience, strengths, challenges, competitors, objectives, and the voice and tone of your brand. Filling out forms not your thing? You can skip any questions you’re not sure how to answer, we’ll fill in the gaps during our Kick-off Call.
2. Kick-off call
We’ll have a call to review your answers to the discovery questions and make sure that I have all of the information I need to write your copy. We’ll also review the process and timeline for completing the project from the first draft to designer hand-off.
3. Copy audit
I review your existing digital copy through a UX lens, focusing on clarity, tone, and user journey consistency. By pinpointing areas that need refinement, I then provide a detailed copy audit report, outlining key insights and strategic recommendations to enhance user interaction and overall content effectiveness.
4. Copywriting & wireframing
Cappuccino in hand, I’ll retreat to my keyboard to write crystal clear, emotionally compelling copy based on the insights gleaned during the research and brand messaging strategy phase. In conjunction with the copy, I’ll create wireframes to guide the layout, structure, and flow of the copy.
5. Revisions & feedback
After I present the copy to you, you can make revisions within 15 days—though the vast majority of clients need only one or two minor rounds of revisions. This is also a great time to test the copy on a few of your target clients and gather their targeted feedback, so that I can use it to further hone and perfect the copy.
6. Designer hand-off
I’ll meet with your designer to present the idea, copy, and wireframes, so they are armed with everything they need to design a user friendly interface. I’ll continue to collab with your UX designer until launch to ensure seamless integration of messaging with design. Finally, I’ll conduct a final round of proofreading pre-launch to ensure the final copy is free of errors.
7. Optimization
Six weeks after your website goes live, we’ll have a 60-minute follow-up call to review analytics and any user feedback you’ve received. We’ll look at what’s working and what’s not, and I’ll suggest any necessary tweaks to ensure that your copy is getting the results you want and optimized to your goals.
